What did you all do last evening?

I can tell you- I watched history being made! And like it or not, Obama is the Dem candidate who will battle it out for president in the fall. I watched all the speeches, and thought it was particularly ungracious for Mrs. Clinton to not mention the historic quality of the Obama victory. It was reported that the nomination came on the date that the emancipation proclamation was finally and completely enforced, two hundred years ago. That’s newsworthy. That's noteworthy. Mrs.Clinton did an injustice to her image by not at least making mention of this. The Clinton's have been civil rights advocates. Couldn’t she have used this rationale to include the historical significance of the moment?

Several Things of Note:

1. the first woman to make it this far

2. the first African American to achieve the nomination

3. occurring two hundred years after the EP was enforced in the month of June

Emancipation Proclamation The facts are: the EP was actually signed in January, but the last slaves (in Texas) were freed in June. Many wanted to keep the people in bondage, lady liberty (justice) had already set them free.

Well, bless his heart. McCain appeared creepier than ever as he delivered a very defensive, devisive and well scripted speech in New Orleans last night. As well, he reminded me of the Cheshire Cat as he grinned his way through. The cat was prone to philosophical points that annoy Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

I yawned through Obama’s speech, although the pundits claimed it was electrifying. What was electrifying was the crowd. And Obama’s willingness to go crowd level to greet his admirers. And yes, everyone should be proud to see an African American in this position. I am. It’s been a long time coming. As well, he's led the country past the sixties mentality (it’s also about time). I thought it important that he never mentioned the fact that he is the first African American to be in this position. He mentioned only that he was proud to represent all the many groups of people in this country who want “change”. From my perspective, more was said between the lines than the otherwise obvious, to his credit.

Points of observation regarding the media coverage: I found Chris Matthews to be conspicuously giddy last night. By contrast to other moments when he has been so animated, rude, and arrogant that I’ve wanted to throw a shoe at the TV. And didn’t Larry King do a great job? He is such a master at keeping people in line. (And happy birthday Anderson Cooper- June 3, 1967- he turned 41). Larry King stole the show when he told Anderson happy birthday. He said “Happy Birthday Anderson! Geesh, nineteen and gray already!” Very Funny.

No matter what you think about the candidates, history was made last night, alright. We have definitely left the twentieth century behind. For better or worse, the future has arrived.

Boy, isn't that the truth. I mentioned the same thing to my husband (as I watched politics, he played his Ghost Recon). It would be a very huge mess and not in the best interest of the country. We would have three presidents! I know he (Obama) can't go that route! What a mess it would be! _m

I didn't have much time yesterday for TV... but one thing I would say is that it would be extremely bad if Hillary tries to "claim" a vice-presidential nomination based on some sort of "power sharing" and "power balance" in the party (between her and Obama). That would be really bad. Obama cannot have two powerful Clintons second guessing him at every turn of the difficult way ahead.
